Capital Group and KKR Forge Strategic Partnership for Hybrid Public-Private Funds

Kimberly Flynn, President at XA Investments, recently contributed to an article published by Tania Mitra of Citywire. The article examines the planned launch of hybrid public-private funds by Capital Group and KKR.

Through the strategic partnership, Capital Group and KKR aim to diversify their offerings across asset classes, channels, and geographies by combining Capital Group’s active management and KKR’s private markets expertise. Referring to both public and private markets access, Capital Group CEO Mike Gitlin sees the strategy as “the best of both worlds,” positioning it as a long-term strategy.

Flynn expects, “Capital Group will launch a platform of alternative products likely interval or tender offer funds, which are SEC registered 1940 Act funds, that may be sold widely to retail investors.”

The collaboration marks a trend among asset managers to venture into private markets for higher-fee assets. Despite Capital Group’s previous exit from private markets, KKR’s Eric Mogelof sees growing interest in alternatives. With $70bn in wealth channel AUM, KKR aims to expand its hybrid solutions alongside its existing fund series. The strategic partnership between Cap Group and KKR reflects a broader industry shift towards semi-liquid funds, offering individual investors access to less liquid strategies typically reserved for institutional investors.
