April 6, 2026

Susan Barreto from Alternatives Watch reports that the non‑listed closed‑end fund market reached $290 billion in managed assets as of March 31st, according to XA Investments. The market includes 173 tender‑offer funds holding $165 billion and 141 interval funds totaling $125 billion, underscoring continued asset growth across both structures. XA Investments research also shows 55 additional closed‑end funds currently in SEC registration, with an average registration period of six to nine months.

XA Investments’ research indicates that credit‑oriented strategies dominate the market, accounting for $123 billion of total net assets. Interval funds, in particular, have benefited from sustained demand for private credit exposures over the past year, while real estate, hedge funds, venture capital, and multi‑strategy offerings continue to attract retail capital.

The firm’s monthly market snapshot further highlights increasing activity across fund launches and regulatory filings, with the largest 20 retail closed‑end funds representing 57% of total market share. According to XA Investments, the market increased in total fund counts, and the number of active interval funds, signaling continued momentum in the retail alternatives landscape.
